Falmouth Nature Preserve
Falmouth Nature Preserve Trailmap
Description: Here are several narrow trails through a young, mixed forest of hemlock, beech, maple, and yellow and white birch. The two main trails are marked with red or blue blazes. See the map at the parking lot for trail details.
Natural Features: In spring, watch for Canada Mayflower, Arbutus, Lady Slipper, Clintonia and other wild flowers. In the spring, the warblers are abundant. The Western Trail is boggy with typical wetland plants. You can get to the unspoiled Mill Creek Tidal Estuary and Salt Marsh from this trail. Deer, fox, raccoons and other small mammals make their home here and on neighboring Maine Nature Conservancy lands.
Size: There are connecting trails totaling 2 to 3 miles on this 84 acre site.
Location: The Preserve is off Rte. 88 (Foreside Road) about .7 miles SW of the Town Landing Market (which is at the intersection of Johnson and Foreside Roads). The dirt road leading into the Preserve is directly opposite 177 Foreside Road.
Parking: There is off-street parking for 5 or 6 vehicles.
No motorized vehicles are allowed on Preserve property. This trail network is perfect for hiking in summer and cross-country skiing in winter.
