Property Description:  The Woods Road Community Forest is a ¬Ī150 acre wooded property located off the north side of the Woods Road, behind and adjacent to the town Transfer Station.
Natural Features:  Woods Road Community Forest is a mature forest, with stands of Eastern hemlock, white pine and various hardwood species predominating. It is home to the usual woodland creatures found in Maine.
History:  Most of this property was acquired in the 1990s in an effort to mitigate the impact¬†that¬†construction of the Woodlands Country Club had on a deeryard.  As a result of this agreement, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife holds an easement on a portion of the property that requires it be managed for white tail deer populations.
Allowable Uses:  Hiking, snowmobiling, mountain biking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and nature study are all allowed. Hunting is prohibited in the area of the property protected by easement. There is no organized trail system, but several snowmobile trails cross the property. Motorized vehicles are prohibited, except snowmobiles on marked trails. The area is not handicapped accessible.
Cautions:  Deer ticks are common; care must be taken to avoid Lyme disease. Use of a map, compass and/or GPS unit is advised when exploring this property.
