History: The current FMS was built in 1957 and originally housed the middle school (Grades 6-8) and high school (Grade 9-12) until the construction of FHS in 2001. After FHS was built, and because of the growing numbers of students, the FMS expanded to Grades 5-8. The property and buildings have had many facelifts over the years but the site had its greatest modification with the elementary school construction, which opened in September 2011, housing Grades K-5 and returning the FMS to Grades 6-8.
Natural Features: The facility (both west and east campus) is enclosed by woodlands and also has several wetland areas including a stream. It is located in a residential area.
Allowable Uses: Fields and Facilities are allowed by permit only.
Cautions: Trails are partially located on “non-town” owned property and in one case crosses over railroad tracks. Currently, most of the property is closed to the public during the school construction.
Trails: A trail extends from the FMS to the Falmouth Town Hall but is not a formal town trail and crosses personal property. Another trail extends past the baseball field and leads to Falmouth Community Park but is inaccessible because of a bridge that is in poor condition and a railroad crossing.
