Falmouth Town Council Adopts “All Hazard” Emergency Operations Plan
Establishes Regional American Red Cross Facility at High School
FALMOUTH – The Falmouth Town Council recently adopted an “All Hazard Emergency Operations plan”. The plan was precluded by an Emergency Management ordinance which created the Falmouth Department of Emergency Management and appointed a director.
The plan is a public safety coordination of the town’s Police, Fire, Emergency Medical Services, Parks, Public Works, School District, and Waste Water Departments. Each agency contributed to the over-all development of the plan and ensures a unified and coordinated preparedness, response, and recovery from catastrophic events that face Falmouth.  The plan ensures compliance with State and Federal mandates that allows inter-operability with Falmouth’s regional, state, and federal partners.
A major portion of the plan includes an agreement with the American Red Cross and establishes a regional shelter facility at the Falmouth High School. The facility, when the situation requires, will shelter displaced citizens. The shelter allows for the disabled and is pet friendly.
The Town of Falmouth recently purchased a generator system for the High School at a cost of $150,000 which is capable of providing power in the event of a long-term power outage.
“I am confident that the Town of Falmouth has taken the necessary steps to safeguard our citizens in the event of a man-made or natural disaster” said Town Manager Nathan Poore.
