Falmouth has always had a network of informal but well-used paths and trails. This Trail Guide is an invitation to you to share that treasure and enjoy the many and varied escapes to woods or fields or streams that our Town offers.
The Falmouth Conservation Commission has gathered the information for this booklet. The paths described are all on publicly owned land or Maine Audubon property. We hope one or more of them will intrigue you to explore.
We also hope that the ranks of walkers will increase as a result of this effort. England is veined with hundreds of miles of "footpaths". Some have been there for 1,000 years, and some are owed to visionary planning after World War II. Maybe an upsurge in walkers, in Falmouth, will inspire the development of more trails and open space that can be enjoyed now and for generations to come.
The Conservation Commission is always looking for ways to acquire land or negotiate easements which will allow us to connect trails or expand the trail system.
So leave the asphalt behind - pick a trail - and discover some of the best of this Town you call home.
