Brook Road Project
(Blackstrap Road to Town Line)
April 13, 2009
The Maine Department of Transportation (DOT) is currently preparing the road design for the Brook Road project. Until recently, the federal and state money to complete the project was unavailable. As part of the President’s economic stimulus plan, Brook Road has qualified for these federal funds. That said, the DOT is moving the project forward quickly so that the project is ‘shovel ready’ when funds become available in 2009.
This is good news for the Town as it will address Brook Road, which needs repairs. It also saves the Town money, as the project will be nearly 100% federal dollars.
However, the Town has not received any input from the public regarding this project since 2007 when the first phase (Leighton to Blackstrap) was done. The Town feels it is important to make contact again with everyone that has an interest in the project.
The following are answers to some frequently asked questions:
The project, as prepared by DOT, consists of fixing the drainage system and correcting any drainage problems. The road will be widened about 4 feet to accommodate new bike lanes. The road is the same design as the first phase that was completed in 2008 (with the exception of the sidewalk). All work will be within the 50-foot wide right-of-way, thus, no private property disturbance or easement acquisitions are needed. Construction is anticipated this summer.
If you wish to meet regarding the project, discuss design options, or provide any other input, please call me at 781-3919. I will then coordinate with DOT to make sure that the input provided gets incorporated into the project.
I can also be contacted via-email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Any input that you wish to provide is greatly appreciated.
We look forward to delivering a successful road project in 2009.
