Workshop discussion of a proposed amendment to Section 5.22.3 of the Zoning and Site Plan Review Ordinance regarding Accessory Cottages.

A public comment period will not be included with this item because it is a workshop discussion.

ACTION: Council action is not anticipated.
Summary:
Councilor Tony Payne introduced an amendment to Section 5.22.3 of the Zoning and Site Plan Review Ordinance regarding Accessory Cottages. The proposed amendment would increase the square footage allowed for Accessory Cottages.  The Council and Planning Board have held public hearings.  Please find attached the following:
  • The current zoning provisions regarding accessory dwelling units.  Please note that there are two types, apartments and cottages.  Cottages include apartments above a detached garage as well as those in a separate structure.  Apartments include units above an attached garage as well as those that are part of the single family home.
  • Letter from Bill Lunt requesting the amendment. This amendment originated with this letter to then Councilor Tony Payne.
  • Council minutes of April 8, 2013.  The Council discussed the item and agreed to move forward with the preparation of an introduction.
  • Council letter of introduction.
  • Proposed amendment as presented at the introduction.
  • Council minutes from May 8, 2013 - Item 4 Public hearing on a proposed amendment to Section 5.22.3 of the Zoning and Site Plan Review Ordinance regarding Accessory Cottages.   Chair Varney opened the public hearing. There was no public comment.
  • Planning Board minutes from the June 4 MRA Hearing.
